The case against five suspects linked to the Nomzamo shooting in Orlando East, Soweto, has been postponed to October 18. The suspects, who cannot be named until an identified parade has taken place, made their first appearance at the Orlando Magistrate Court at Soweto on Monday after they were arrested last week.

The state requested four weeks to conduct more outstanding investigation and follow up on extraditing more suspects from Lesotho.

The suspects, two of whom are South Africans and three Besotho, are accused of being part of a gang that shoot and killed 16 and injuring eight other people in July. They allegedly entered Mdlalose’s tavern in Nomzamo park informal settlement in Orlando East and started shooting randomly.

The five suspects are remanded in custody.
